Inaugural Meeting
Monday, February 23, 2009
The inaugural meeting was a huge success. We had just under 50 people attend. We opened the meeting
with introductions even the membership. It went around the room with each person
describing there apiaries, # of hives etc. Ron Hoopes President of the Ohio State
Beekeepers Association was in attendance along with some colleagues. He spoke about their
organization and some of the events they sponsor through out the year. Mark Zeiner OSBA Queen
Coordinator (Ohio Valley Region) spoke about the OSBA Ohio Queen Project mentioning a
proposed queen rearing school for our region early summer. Chuck Zinser Brown/Highland
county bee inspector introduced himself and gave a few reasons why beekeepers shouldn't
fear the inspector. I spoke a little about why we were forming a group and what a few of
our objectives were. Volunteers were ask to fill the officers positions with the crowd
nominating me for President and Mark Bering for Vice-President. Mark Wesseler is
Treasurer, Dona Grant is Secretary, Karl Grant is a Trustee, Cathy Quick is taking either
Historian or a Trustee position. Chuck Zinser expressed an interest in one of the trustee
positions. So to count all that up we have a pres, vice, sec, treas, and two trustees if
Cathy takes the historian position. I gave a brief overview of the web site and how to
use it. That pretty much took up our 2 hours so we adjourned to eat the giant cake. Our
meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month with our next meeting being
held at the Western Brown High School Community Room on Tuesday March 10, 2009 from 7-8pm.
